ABOUT US
THE WORKING FARM
Great Blaenawe Farm was bought by Andrew and Sally Johnstone in 1980. They were drawn in by the most beautiful country and views. Since then their 3 sons Will, Marcus and James have diversified the farm and now run the most beautiful and romantic shabby chic venue for miles - the Sugar Loaf Barn. The farm is still very much a working farm, producing 600 lambs per year, so book your wedding in early May and you will have the joy of spring lambs popping up all around you.
As we are a family run business you will always get a warm and personal experience.
YOUR WEDDING
Our weddings take place in our 32m x 24m agricultural barn perched on the side of the Sugar Loaf mountain.
The barn is cleverly zoned with heated seating areas, toilets, huge stage, dance floor, bar, catering and dining areas. . White washed floors, exposed steels, huge barn doors, a bespoke hand made bar, light fittings and tables all contribute to the chicest and most authentic farm wedding possible.
THE VENUE
The venue is flexible in terms of styling and looks great as it stands with just the most minimal of touches.
If going big is your thing the barn provides the space and height to go wild.
The only thing you are limited by is your imagination.

OUR APPROACH
We truly believe that your wedding day should be your own and as such we have a very flexible and relaxed mentality. You can choose all of your own suppliers to suit your own tastes, style and budget. We also like to keep things simple so we only have a single wedding package which includes all of our lovely accommodation for the weekend. This enables you to enjoy your celebrations a little longer with family and friends. As a family-run business, we aim to make the whole experience friendly and personal and it’s the personal touches that count!
ARRIVING IN STYLE
The authentic farm experience
TRANSPORT
No limousines allowed. This is a space for tractors only, Make your newlywed arrival like no other with our vintage Massey Ferguson.
TRANSPORT
Guests will be escorted from our carpark by the owner in a custom made trailer pulled by a shining New Holland tractor and taken up the fairytale drive to our unique wedding barn.
DRINKS
Fully stocked bar offering a range of local artisan booze
WELCOME DRINKS
Welcome drinks are served usually outside straight after the 'I do’s' by our staff so you and your guests can enjoy the view all the way to England. We provide a range of options from bottles served in troughs, prosecco made pink with a touch of our home made sloe gin and cocktails garnished to perfection.
TABLE WINE - NO CORKAGE
We welcome you to supply your own table wine and bubbles for the toast during your wedding breakfast and the best part is we do not charge corkage. We do have a carefully selected and reasonably priced wine list for those who require it.
BAR
It is important to us that everyone's experience here is pleasurable and relaxed A big part of this is a reasonably priced bar. We pride ourselves on supplying local, home made and old favourites for everyone to enjoy through out the day and night including every type of gin you can imagine. Whether you are offering a free or paying bar for your guests everyone will be happy.
ACCOMMODATION
Our package includes wonderful on-site accommodation for 20 of your closest family and friends
HOLIDAY BARN
This luxurious yet cosy barn sleeps 8 and provides the most perfect open plan space to get ready on your big day. The BBQ area and hot tub are always a hit the next day when catching up with family and friends. This barn is available from the Thursday before your wedding to enable plenty of time to organise set up and enjoy the process.
SHEPHERDS HUTS
Hand-made by the boys, two sets of beautiful Shepherds Huts sleep 4 each. Perched high up on the Sugar Loaf mountain they boast even more breathtaking views than the wedding barn. We provide a John Deere Gator to access these huts.
Complete with firepit, solar energy and separate bathrooms.
SAFARI TENTS
Two large canvas safari tents sleeping two each are provided near the venue. Each contains a double bed made up with linen and fluffy white towels and also boast incredible views.
